Take the Time to Savor
Our brains generally filter out the good all around us. They are busy looking for the danger to protect us or looking for what’s broken so we can fix it. We can retrain our minds to look for and notice all the good around us. Once we do notice a positive event or moment, the trick is to savor it. Hold on to it for a few extra moments to let that new neural connection have time to gain strength. One of my reoccurring positive moments is having my dog Rusty welcome me home. It doesn’t matter if it’s the first or third time I’ve come home that day – every time he is so welcoming and happy to see me. I now savor that unconditional love by giving him my full attention and taking time to use both hands to rub his ears. I think he is even happier to see me these days!!
