The Story of Your Life – What’s in your book?
Recently it seems like there have been a number of friends and family who have either passed away or received a very serious diagnosis. It makes me feel so sad and I could even let it depress me. Instead I’ve been trying to use the tools I share. How can I learn and grow from this? How can I use it to remind myself to enjoy my life and make sure I’m appreciating all the wonderful gifts I have? How can I use it to remind myself that every day I get to choose how I’m going to show up and how I will respond to the circumstances in my day?
As I’ve pondered these questions, a great analogy came to me. Every day we start with a blank page in our book – “The Story of My Life.” Every day we get to choose much of what gets written there. Sure, there are things we have to do, and things that happen to us that we can’t control, but we DO get to CHOOSE our attitude, our response, what we say and do, and what we focus on. These are the things that determine if that page, that day has a good story or not. It’s not easy and it’s very helpful to use reminders (like our passwords), but the choice is up to us.
It’s worth repeating one of my favorite quotes – What a wonderful life I’ve had. I just wished I’d realized it sooner. by Colette
Every day we start with a blank sheet. Every day we write a new page. Every day we are one page closer to the end. What kind of story will be in your book?
