Want to Know the Secret Ingredient?

 In Better Life, Self confidence

I was in shock!  The head of R&D at the biotech company I was working at wanted ME to join his team and to promote me from a senior scientist to a manager!   Me!!   I finally had the courage to ask him why.  He said it was because I was skilled at getting along with everybody and he needed more of that and less ego on his team. He also said I was good at keeping an upbeat attitude.  I couldn’t believe it!  I didn’t see these things as anything special.  It’s just the way I was.

We all have our own special talents and gifts that make us unique, but because they are part of us, we can have a hard time seeing them as anything special.  Understanding and using our talents can make a big difference in our lives, helping us to become our best self.  Not sure of your gifts?  Here are some tips for doing a little detective work.

I recently watched one of my favorite movies, Kung Fu Panda again and it struck me how one of the main messages of this movie ties into understanding our strengths.  Po, the panda bear, has finally earned the right to learn the secret of the Dragon Scroll, which will give him unlimited power so he can fulfill his destiny.  After much struggle, he carefully unrolls the scroll to find – NOTHING!!  He is devastated!  He will never be able to become the powerful Dragon Warrior; he will always be just be a big, fat panda.

A little while later, his dad decides it’s time to tell him the secret ingredient in his famous secret ingredient noodle soup.  His dad quietly whispers – there is NO secret ingredient.  To make something special, you just have to believe it’s special!  That’s when it hits Po – the secret of the Dragon Scroll is that there is no secret ingredient.  He already had everything he needed to be the great Dragon Warrior.  He just needed to see his own gifts as special.

You are already special, with your own talents and strengths.  Live your best life by making sure you’re using them.
